Raunächte

Have you ever heard of the so-called "Raunächten"? They're those 12, or depending on who you ask, 13 days sometime around Christmas and into the New Year, right? But what is it exactly, what is the significance, and why should I, or you, concern yourself with it?

In Wolfgang's anthro.wiki, for example, one reads the following: "When Raunächte (also Rauhnächte or Smoke nights) or Christmas are commonly called the Twelve Holy Nights (also Twelfth or Bell Nights) between 25 December (Christmas Day) and 6 January (Epiphany)."

I could go and consult all kinds of literature - but do I want to? Wouldn't it be nicer to move this topic with personal experiences from you for a while, as a project? I look forward to your I-messages or questions in the comments section.
